Artwork Analysis: Chapter I

Interpretation, History, and Meaning of 8 Abstract Paintings by Liaksiej Bandarenka

Hello! Liaksiej is here!

Today, I would like to discuss a collection of eight remarkable paintings all at once. Because I had completed all of them simultaneously at one point [I meticulously painted the frames and delicately placed each painting within them.]

Today lineup for artwork analysis:

I. Sine Nomine I
II. Arctic Blueberry
III. Microbes
IV. Pullus
V. Behind the Glass – M
VI. Lilium Osculum
VII. Sine Nomine II
VIII. Stop

I. Sine Nomine I

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

Sine Nomine I

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide the name of this piece. As a result, this will serve as my inaugural image, suitably titled accordingly. This phrase in Latin translates to “Without a name,” conveying a sense of anonymity or lack of identification.

This is the outcome of my experiment with MTN colors [biely i blakitny] and MTN Water Base [čyrvony flu.]

I have associations with the cosmos, some kind of galactic motif. These experiments took place during the tranquil evenings of springtime. I had the pleasure of playing the Pink Floyd audio cassette on my trusty Panasonic tape recorder [An exclusive article dedicated to this tape recorder will be available soon.]

I acknowledge that I have exhausted all my thoughts and insights regarding this work.

It was created in April 2022.

Initially, it began in this manner:

Process. “Sine Nomine I”

In an effort to rectify the situation, it was subsequently determined to include the addition of white color. There has been improvement, although there remains a noticeable level of dirtiness. Lacking a formal art education, I find myself with a gap in my knowledge when it comes to color mixing. Every step I take in this realm is driven solely by intuition and courage!

II. Arctic Blueberry

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

“Arctic Blueberry”

I can vividly sense the flavor of ripe blueberries accompanied by the refreshing chill of the polar cold! The utilization of white acrylic imparts Frost with a visually captivating and dynamic effect. By the way, it’s acrylic for fabric. I have numerous instances of combining various colors in such cases!

The composition exudes a captivating aura, resembling the delicate beauty of hoar frost intertwined with an element of futuristic space.

The direction and trajectory of the brush movement is quite characteristic of me. I can’t explain why this happens. It turns out on its own. You can observe this particular style in the artworks showcased at my gallery. These works are remarkable because they are created during periods of my anxiety, showcasing a distinct handwriting. As I immerse myself in the interplay of colors and line compositions, I discover solace and liberation from anxiety. It has been quite a while since I last indulged in such artistic expressions. Currently, I am engaged in exploring an entirely distinct abstract style that embodies a captivating and unique essence [I plan to showcase my upcoming artworks in the future, making them available for sale [this abstract painting discontinued from sale] in my gallery, while providing detailed insights about each piece through captivating blog articles.]

Coming back to the painting “Arctic Blueberry” and make note of the materials used in its creation. The painting showcases a vibrant composition on thick white paper, using a mix of watercolor and acrylic.

The painting is encased within a wooden frame and protected by a sheet of glass. The frame has been coated with acrylic spray paint. A photo showcasing the step-by-step process of painting all the frames will be featured later in this article.

III. Microbes

2022

“Microbes” painting

I don’t recall the exact details, but I remember disassembling clothing buttons on the table. And during the break I decided to experiment with paints. I pressed my palms and fingers onto the paper, leaving indisputable imprints. I selected the circular shape and placed a soft cloth inside, covering the remaining surface with a generous layer of lustrous gold paint.

Spray painting

By the way, this piece of paper that I use to catch paint has its own fascinating history.  This particular draft was utilized in the creation of an abstract composition consisting of similar drafts.

I and my Artwork, crafted skillfully from the various drafts.

Each version of a paper draft, including this one, carries a distinct legacy akin to a work of art.

A paper draft acts as my work surface for capturing excess paint while working.

Stay tuned for further insights on this painting in an upcoming article.

Additional insights on the artwork “Microbes”

The painting evokes a vivid image reminiscent of the intricate patterns observed through a microscope. The circle resembles the optics of a microscope, while the white background acts as the illuminating source. With my fingerprints and the vibrant colors, it creates the illusion of observing biological material through a microscope. Although gold may not be the optimal choice for the ensemble, it undeniably adds to the overall harmony. Furthermore, the gold color adds a unique texture and character, which I find particularly appealing in this picture!

In my opinion, the experiment produced outstanding results.

IV. Pullus

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

Pullus

Briefly about the painting. The painting was crafted in a moment of spontaneity, blending the vibrant hues of watercolors and acrylics.

One of the phases of my work.

Consequently, in my imaginative perception, there emerges the vision of a chick’s head delicately tilting downwards in a curious gaze.

V. Behind the Glass – M

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

– Mars

The breathtaking view of Mars’ crimson sky, visible through the window of the colonial station, is the imagery that captivates my thoughts whenever I gaze upon this painting.

For this piece, I utilized acrylic aerosol paints, specifically in shades of vibrant orange and blue.

The initial coating bears a striking resemblance to the head of a piglet.

The process of mixing colors results in the creation of new shades and shades of light.

With a single “stroke”, my crafted circle effortlessly enhances the painting, bringing it to a new level. This addition makes it an excellent choice for the overall composition. The only missing component in the overall composition of this option is a frame. Detailed information about this frame will be provided at the end of the article.

VI. Lilium Osculum

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

Lilium Osculum

This artwork is created using watercolor and acrylic techniques on paper.

Lilium Osculum is a breathtaking flower, made more enchanting by my kiss.

I have a vivid memory from my childhood, a frozen snapshot in time that I recall with great clarity. The captures a young me gleefully indulging in watercolors, resulting in a mouth vibrant with the colors of my artistic escapades. My mother, recognizing the enchantment of the scene, captured it forever with her camera.

My childhood memories are filled with the image of me with watercolor lips.

I am grateful to my mother for capturing this beautiful moment!

This photo was taken outside of the native country. I will experience my first visit to my native Belarus only when I am just three years old. If you are intrigued by my place of birth and personal journey, I invite you to delve into the captivating details right here.

I showcasing watercolor lips painted in a beautiful shade of violet.

Here I am, in April 2022, embarking on an intriguing experiment. I daringly adorned my lips with delicate strokes of watercolor, capturing the essence of a moment on paper.

I performed a test on the draft before painting on the final paper.

I left lip imprints around the edges of the paper, leaving my mark.

Final result

I delighted with the outcome!

VII. Sine Nomine II

2022

[Here is a page featuring this painting]

Sine Nomine II

The second untitled painting in my gallery. The experiment using colors from MTN 94 and MTN Waterbase.

First stage of the experiment

Disappointed with the mixing outcome, I couldn’t bring myself to discard the draft. As a result, I embarked on a creative endeavor, transforming my painting into the likeness of a planet using a stencil and spray paint. This enabled me to rescue my painting.

VIII. Stop

2022

This artwork symbolizes my first creation, intricately crafted using the ashes carefully collected from my burnt cigarettes.

White acrylic on the paper

First layer with ash

A stencil + MTN 94 [Violet Fluo.]

Results from painting using a stencil.

A lot of mistakes were made here. Today (2023) my experience has greatly improved using ash with acrylic compared to before. There will be articles on my blog about paintings with a combination of these materials.
